“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
― Confucius

We are busy. We have bottomless to-do lists and nonstop days. How’s a girl supposed to get it all done?

Ever think about how there might be pockets of time in the day that go unaccounted for? We work so hard to get it all done and be perfectly on time, all the while appearing fabulous. But what if we didn’t have to try so hard? What if, by choosing to do fewer things, we could achieve more, and have a few minutes to spare?

In this post, I will share 3 things you can give yourself permission to stop doing right now, giving you more time to be the awesome, sparkling goddess you always knew you could be.

1. One Last Thing

You know the one. You have five minutes to get out the door, so you figure you have a few minutes to unload the dishwasher or put the clothes in the dryer. There’s no harm in multitasking, right? The only problem is, before you know it you are at least two minutes behind, which somehow compounds into five or ten, and suddenly you are running late.

Next time you are running out the door, consciously decide to say no to that one last thing. You will create a much more relaxed experience for yourself if you aren’t running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to squeeze in one last task, and you will be able to drive to your destination like a calm person. Bonus: if you are early, you might find yourself with a few minutes to read or listen to an audiobook.

2. Recurring Negative Thoughts

Who hasn’t played that last snarky email they received over and over in their head for an entire day or two? Negative thoughts, or thoughts of things we don’t want in our lives, only bring us down. Their effects range from keeping us stagnant in places we don’t want to be in our lives to spiraling us downward into hours, days, or longer of moping around and feeling sorry for ourselves. Negative thoughts only serve to drain our precious energy and time that could be directed towards accomplishing what we want in life.

Why not choose to switch from negative thoughts to something better? Go ahead: close your eyes for a moment, take a deep breath, and picture yourself exactly where you would like to be right now. Tell me that didn’t feel good! Every time those negative thoughts come into your mind, tell them no thank you and move on with creating the life you envision. Believe me, you will save yourself a ton of time and heartache!

3. Mindless Social Media

We all do it: scrolling through Facebook or Twitter, checking out what everyone else is up to. I have been guilty of hopping on Facebook right before bed, robbing myself of time that could be spent meditating on where I want to be.

Whatever your dream, think about how you might be able to use social media to channel a following towards your own aspirations. If the intention for use of social media changes, then it can be a positive force in our lives. And we gain back that time that was once spent less mindfully.

There you have it! Three things we can all choose to stop doing today, giving us more time and inner peace; the spaciousness we need to pursue our dreams.

What else do you think could be added to this list? Please share your thoughts!
